About the Honoree:
CAROL GOLDBERG, longtime board president of the Open Land Foundation and a leader of the organization since its founding in 1974, passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2026. Carol was an accomplished equestrian and horse show judge, a widely respected expert on North Salem real estate, a master gardener and collector of fine antiques. And in many ways, she was the heart and soul of this town.
“It didn’t happen by accident,” she would often say about North Salem’s unparalleled rural character and natural beauty. It happened because Carol and her supporters made it happen, helping to acquire and preserve 1,500 acres of pristine land across more than fifty years of service. Under her watch, the Open Land Foundation became a nationally accredited regional frontrunner in land conservation. A natural leader,
Carol gained the trust of countless friends, neighbors and community organizations over the years, recruiting them to her conservation ethic. All who knew Carol were charmed by her sly wit and awed by her fierce dedication to protecting North Salem’s special landscape. The Open Land Foundation will never forget her towering contribution to the land she loved. Please join us to celebrate Carol’s legacy and continue her important work.
