Mills-Morris Preserve
Trail Description
Mills-Morris Preserve features a moderate hike through a beautiful mix of wetlands, forest, and gently flowing streams. A parking area just off Dingle Ridge Road brings you directly to the 0.4-mile Yellow Trail, which winds through the woods before connecting to the 0.14-mile Orange Trail. This short but scenic stretch includes boardwalk crossings over streams and leads to the 0.6-mile White Trail, where the elevation begins to climb.
Created from two generous contributions, the Mills-Morris Preserve forms a vital link between Dingle Ridge and Finch Roads, extending a wildlife corridor from the Connecticut border to Route 121 in North Salem. In 1996, longtime board member Ruth Mills donated 10 acres, followed by the purchase of an additional 11.3 acres in 2020—made possible with a matching grant and contributions by generous neighbors—in honor of longtime board member Jeffrey Morris. This diverse landscape of wetlands, a stream, and upland forest bursts with golden marsh marigolds each spring and offers birders and nature lovers a wealth of sights year-round.
We are dedicated to preserving the character and natural beauty of the town of North Salem, NY and the area around it by establishing land areas free from exploitation, development, and deterioration and by maintaining the environmental and ecological integrity of the area.
